- Tell someone where you are going and when you expect to return.
- Carry and know how to use map and compass.
- Carry emergency food, matches, and a good knife.
- Check your position frequently.
- If you are lost – DON’T PANIC!
- Stay put, prepare shelter and fire.
- Prepare three signal fires in a 60 foot triangle, ready for lighting at the first sound of an aircraft.
- Conserve your food supply and strength.
- If you leave your shelter, blaze your trail.
- If you are not lost, but only delayed, notify the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and your home.
