Denise Wallace presents Vic Smith with the Ontario Search and Rescue Volunteer Association (OSARVA) Horace Webb Outstanding Long Term Service Award. This award is in recognition of Vic’s 50 years of service.
December 2019
At the December meeting of the Lakehead Search & Rescue Unit, Vic Smith was honoured at a retirement ceremony for 48 years of service with the Unit. Vic joined LSRU in 1971 as a searcher and rose through the ranks, ending his career as Secretary/Treasurer of the Board of Directors. He was presented with a framed picture from one of the searches in which he participated. He also received a long-term pin from the Search and Rescue Volunteer Association of Canada. A message of congratulations was also passed on from the Ontario Search and Rescue Volunteer Association. Attending the ceremony were members of LSRU, as well as several retired members of the Unit. We wish Vic a long and happy retirement.

Denise Wallace was chosen for the Volunteer of the Year award by the Ontario Search and Rescue Volunteer Association (OSARVA) at the Annual General Meeting held May 2014 in Orillia, Ontario. OSARVA is the Governing body for Volunteer Search and Rescue teams within the Province of Ontario and is the liaison between the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), National Search and Rescue Secretariat (NSS), Emergency Management Ontario (EMO) and the Volunteer SAR teams.
